White-colored countertops are dominating. And in white, quartz is getting prominence. Granite countertops are definitely fading out. 4. Modern Farmhouse - Use of wood & Apron sink

Modern Farmhouse style is definitely popular currently. The design raised in popularity with ‘Farmhouse dining’ with the increase in everything organic and farm to table approach. Naturally, the farmhouse style in the kitchen is also widely in demand. You can read more on Modern Farmhouse style here or one of my previous entries which explores Farmhouse Living Room

With the rise in popularity of Modern Farmhouse style, the use of wooden texture in the kitchen is also rising. We can see the use of wood either sparingly on some elements of the kitchen or extensively used on cabinets to highlight the wooden texture.

An addition to this style is Apron styled sink. The apron sink style has a vintage look, charm and also the functionality of modern times. An advantage of Apron styled sinks is that if water drips or splashes, the damages to the cabinets are avoided. There is definitely more to apron sinks, which you can read more at The Flooring Girl, where the author has described more about apron sinks and advice on selecting the right ones.

5. Patterns - Backsplash, Island or Flooring

Minimalism which was at its peak in the last few years seems to be slowly fading out. We are seeing many designs with a bit of pattern used, either on walls or flooring or even wall arts.  Also, there is a rise in maximalism where designers are exploring mixing colors and patterns and creating some beautiful wonderlands.

The trend follows in kitchen design as well. We are seeing patterns on flooring, backsplashes or even kitchen flooring. The patterns range from simple geometric patterns to heavy Moroccan inspired patterns. Done with restraint, the patterns can give a great focal point all the while blending in with the design.

6. Metals - Hardware and Lighting

While the use of wood and ceramic tiles is big, metals also are taking a spot. We can see the use of metals in lighting (Industrial or Farmhouse style), kitchen hardware and also kitchen stove & hoods. We can add a glamorous look to the style by adding some bling in the kitchen!

7. Open Shelves

If you are one of the highly organized people, then good news for you, you can now proudly show your organized kitchenware on open shelves and be trendy! This might just help in decluttering and help in keeping everything simple and clean. You can definitely play around with this idea by using glass shelves, wood, and metal, floating shelves or two-toned colors.
